2007 HIGHLIGHTS We made it through our first year together. It has been busy and productive, and I thank you for staying in touch with me and for your help in 2007. Here is a brief recap of some of the 2007 accomplishments in the 5th District: · Funding was secured for a Supervisory Library Assistant for the Novato Library to improve customer service, especially on weekends and evenings. · Funding for the Rush Creek landscaping and lighting district was continued. · Bel Marin Keys Boulevard was repaved and a large crack on Del Oro Road was repaired. · A dangerous ditch on Indian Valley Road was filled at the request of Indian Valley Associates. · The highway patrol, at my request, has been increased on Indian Valley Road to ticket speeders. · The county sheriff, at my request, is posting more deputies on Alameda del Prado due to excessive speed on weekends. · Besides the 5th District appointment to the county planning commission, one of the two at-large positions was filled by a Novato resident. · After years of planning and talking, the county hired an economic specialist to implement the Targeted Industries Study, work with cities and bring in more revenue to Marin. · A bike lane down Alameda del Prado was added to the non-motorized grant project last year, and work is beginning to put the utilities along the median underground. · Marin County Health and Human Services added a weekly Thursday dental clinic at the Novato Wellness Center. · Maintenance funding was secured to accept a donation of approximately 65 acres of land near StoneTree Golf Course to be preserved as county open space. The land donation is expected to be officially accepted by the board of supervisors in late January 2008. · At the request of the Bel Marin Keys community, we were able to get clarifying language added to the Baylands Corridor in the Countywide Plan to grandfather in all existing lawful uses in the Bel Marin Keys area such as dredging and repairs on docks and levees — so as not to create an additional layer of governmental review and guidelines to be followed. · I also arranged for a public forum on Personal Rapid Transit. 2007 LOOK WHO’S GETTING IT DONE AWARD Now a drum roll please — the winner of the First Annual "Look Whose Getting It Done" Award goes to Rob Hart and Hart Marin! Rob Hart is a private developer who successfully built an affordable housing project in Novato without any public funds, tax credits or subsidies. Rob wanted to use his experience and expertise in real estate development for the good of the community rather than to maximize profit. The development, Virginia Grove, is located at 1845 Virginia Ave. in Novato. It is a privately funded, eight-home, single-family subdivision. Three of the homes are deed-restricted as low-income homes to make them affordable now and in the future. The rest of the homes are priced at half the price of new homes in Novato. Not only are these homes affordable, they are also built with green building practices and features including passive solar heating and cooling, pre-wiring for solar panels, stainless Energy Star appliances, and much more. Please join me in thanking Rob Hart for his inspiration and commitment to improving our community. He truly is "getting things done" in Novato.

When I ran to be your County Supervisor, I said I couldn’t promise that we would always be of the same mind, but I promised that I would always have an open mind.
I welcome your input and feedback.
I’m proud to serve a district that realizes that democracy requires participation. We have the Bill of Rights, but we also thrive upon the unwritten Bill of Responsibilities.
Together, we are going to get good things done for the 5th District.
